"Are you trying to manage me?"
My ribs tighten around my lungs. "Are you manageable?"
"No."

Rock's Review
Book: The Games Gods Play
Author: Abigail Owen
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5 stars)
This book had been on TBR the moment I found out about it! And the deluxe sprayed edges edition is sitting happily in my library.
The first thing I noticed was how insanely short the chapters were. And I personally loved it because it always feels satisfying to end your reading session on the end of a chapter. Long chapters tend to drag out and pull away from the story when the chapter said what it already needed too. At least for me they do.
The love story that nests between Hades and Lyra will take you all the way up to Olympus, sending you into new heights; and all the way down to the Underworld. A place not as dark as you might think, it actually favors, and cators, to the dead.
As Lyra forcefully enters the god created games of The Crucible, she's having to fight for not only her life, but also fight the turmoils that Hades twisted love introduces to her.
First kiss tensions will hit you out of the blue and you'll be sitting with your forehead sweating well until the finaly quarter of the book. And not from the spice, but for the amount of edging and time it takes, to finally meet the open-door romance scenes! It's worth it I promise. And that's all I'm going to say. Hades certaintly knows how to make magic with the snap of his fingers, wink wink.
I understand some people found the main character - Lyra - to be annoying and naive at times. There is justified points made, but it's also a NA (New Adult) book, and with Lyra being cursed, never being able to deeply connect with another, she would certainly have some learning to do. Not always the most joyous scenes to read, but it's needed for her backstory and shows her progression with struggles of true connection.

Who should read this book?
This is a unique and mythological journey full of love, various creatures, loss, death games, and new levels of hope. A fun take on Mythology with a contemporary twist.
Definitely a 21+ book, as there is open-door romance and adult language used throughout. Perfect for young adults looking for an action packed romantasy, that is far from over.
Next book set to release in 2025! Who's ready for part 2 of The Crucible!? I know I am.
