Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars)

Spoilers ⚠

18+ only

My body immediately perspirates when I think about the dark and twisted fate that holds Aly by the throat. And yes, I'm talking about Josh's hand - Aly's new necklace in Lights Out.

A duel POV that I couldn't eat up fast enough. I listened to the audiobook version and I'm so happy I did. Over 13 hours of two heavenly voices blessing my ears. Both Elena Wolfe and Jacob Morgan brought these characters to life and I thank them both for it!

Many moments while listening to this soaking wet puddle of a story, I had to stop and gawk at what I just heard. The plot twists were coming left and right, and I love when an author can successfully pull the rug out right from under our feet without us expecting it, and Navessa checked that box.

You know what other boxes were checked? Setting, character development, plot, pacing, etc. I have absolutely no complaints about this book and I'd happily re-read just to feel the thrill of masked men lurking about. Did I mention that he has incredible hacking skills, and an even hotter body? Chiseled to perfection, advertising himself all while hiding his true self behind a mask that thousands drool over behind their screens on a daily.

That's the reality at least until Aly's ex happens to be mask man's room mate/bestfriend and that sends Josh on a winding spiral to find out every detail about Aly. And that's no challenge for him, considering how hacking helps him manage his past trauma symptoms - protectiveness and boundary disobeying - but it's how he stays sane, especially when it comes to the people he cares about. he'd do anything to keep them safe from danger. In fact, he'd even be willing to help dispose of a dead body if it's needed ;)

The pacing of this book is timed perfectly. We go from sweet teasing comments such as: "This man is always coming onto my FYP and never on me, and that is a tragedy." All the way to panty soaking comments like: "I stabbed the knife down. Straight into the corner of her mattress. She clapped her hands over her mouth to muffle her horrified scream. I crooked a finger at her, beckoning her forward. "Come here, Aly." I said wrapping my other hand around the knife handle so there would be no mistaking my intent. "I want to watch you ride it." Phewwww wasn't that something. Anyways, chapters explain the information that's needed to progress the story, love connections are not rushed but are burned deliciously in a fast paced way, and duel trust is respectively earned over time (with a little help of lust of course).

Now, for even juicier parts. Kinks play a huge role in not only the plot, but the characters themselves. The decisions that Aly picks were as impulsive and salacious as I was hoping for them to be. From agreeing to get a ride home from her stalker (he brought her snacks, to realizing that he had entered her home and filmed his R-rated videos RIGHT where she sleeps. Way to make a girls head spin!? Kinks ranging from: masks, praise, toys, stalking, binding, knife play, etc.

Rock's Recommendation

Who should read this book?

If you are in search of a one-of-a-kind salacious read with dark morally grey characters, a little playful stalking, plot twists, and a whole pile of spice just waiting to be dumped on you, then look no further! Lights Out is a NA (New Adult), open-door romance that kept me turning each banter-filled page with excitement. The writing is easy to follow along with, and a book perfect for young adults such as myself. I never felt like the book was lacking with plot holes. Everything flowed and it's a wild ride I'd pay to read again for the first time.

With that being said, I'm very excited to read the next book in the series - Caught Up - as I fell in love with the first book. The second book stars Junior, Aly's Cousin, and a girl he used to know as an innocent book worm. Except now, she's turned into a vivacious club worker. When his curiosity taking the reins, he sets off on a mission he can't escape - making her his.
